Located in the center of town, with open green spaces, Market Square is a mixed-use development. Following one of the biggest trends in urban planning, phase one of Market Square, completed in 2005, offering a myriad of opportunities for residents and businesses alike.

.

City officials and developers praise this urban design concept noting its advantages to economic opportunities and the encouragement of walking environments within a cluster of shops, services and residential developments.

In New Albany, Market Square is the embodiment of the mixed-use design offering plenty of parking, shopping and restaurants in one centralized location. Phase one of Market Square entails two-story retail and office space as well as brick townhouses. The Columbus Metropolitan Library branch, The New Albany Community Foundation and The New Albany Chamber of Commerce are all located in Market Square. Retail stores such as Eye Designs, Learning Express and Chocolate Octopus occupy first-floor spaces. Also, the Jeanne B. McCoy Center for the Arts is scheduled to open in February.

New Albany officials say that the entire area is expected to grow and they have plans to develop Market Square II which will house businesses behind Market Square. Tom Rubey, development director of the New Albany Co., said "We’re building on the success of what’s already there."

With the initial phase of Market Square firmly established, Market Square II and more residential development in the works, New Albany Market Square is establishing itself as a place where business and residential living blend to enhance a fabulous lifestyle.
