New Albany Already Ahead of the Curve in Providing A Safe Route to School

The Village of New Albany received a $14,000.00 grant from the Ohio Department of Transportation as part of the states Safe Route to School Program. The money is to be used to develop plans for safe walking and biking routes to and from schools. New Albany village and New Albany-Plain Local Schools officials will collaborate in the development of the plan for providing a safe non-motorized means of getting to school on a daily basis.

New Albany already supports a master trail plan with an extensive system of leisure trails currently in place. New Albany’s officials have been proactive in their focus of providing a quality of life that gives its’ residents a safe small town atmosphere with all the amenities of an urban environment. New Albany’s existing master trail plan can be utilized for the Safe Routes to School plan thus placing New Albany in a prime position for possibly receiving future grant monies that could be used toward the enhancements of existing trails as well as the development of trails currently in the planning stage.
