Whilst not as old as some of the other communities in Central Ohio, Hilliard is a child of the rail road boom. Founded in 1886 around a station along the rail road tracks – hence its original name of "Hilliard Station" a farming community grew around it. Now however there is a bustling 26,000 population city!
The city is very much a suburb of the metro area with many amenities including the Tuttle Crossing Mall within easy driving distance and the Easton Shopping Center a mere 20 minutes away from home. Due to its rapid growth since the construction of the I-270 in the 1980’s the area has grown substantially as downtown Columbus is only 10 minutes away – including all the museums and the arena.
With growth of course beings the demand for new services. The Hilliard School District is now the 9th largest in the state with over 14,000 students and growth of 111% since 1990! It is sure that the area is not recognizable in comparison with its former self but that it is a great suburb for families and commuters to central Columbus.
