Green Energy Ohio, a Columbus based advocacy group, is offering rebates for Ohio residents who install solar water heaters in their homes. The rebate is on top the 30% federal tax credit that already exists for putting a solar water heater in your home. Green Energy Ohio’s rebate is capped at $2,400 and exists for any water heaters purchased after April 1, 2009. According to a recent article in Columbus Business First, Athan Barkoukis, a project manager for Green Energy Ohio, says “that with a cost of $6,500 to $9,500 for installing the heaters, the group estimates customers will see a 10-year payback and cut the total cost of the system roughly in half.” The Sierra Club has funded Green Energy Ohio’s rebate program, which is slated to be a two year program. Green Energy Ohio hopes to be able to extend its program if it can acquire the stimulus funding it is attempting to get. If you are planning to renovate your Central Ohio Real estate, consider taking advantage of the available tax credit and the rebate offered by Green Energy Ohio and replace your traditional water heater with a solar powered version.
