Upcoming Community Events – December 2015

Celebrate the last month of the year by enjoying these holiday events. If you are looking for a family-friendly activity, you will sure be able to find it here in the area. Here is what is happening in Central Ohio this month:

Short North Arts District Holiday Hop

When: Saturday, December 5th (4PM-10PM)

Where: Short North Arts District

Admission: Free

What: Celebrate the Holidays on the first Saturday of December at Holiday Hop along with thousands of visitors who converge on the High Street in the Short North Arts District. They come to celebrate art and partake in an evening of sights, sounds, food, shopping, and cosmopolitan holiday fun. Expect holiday-themed activities such as visits from Santa, spirited art exhibitions, and unexpected surprises.

Village Lights Presented by Schmidt’s  

When: Sunday, December 6th (6PM-10PM)

Where: German Village Meeting Haus (588 S. 3rd Street, Columbus, OH 43026)

What: Visitors from across Central Ohio kick off the holiday on the historic streets of German Village and discover a world of lights and holiday magic! Our guests follow luminaries from shops to businesses and restaurants open late with holiday treats, discounts and special offers. Festive surprises are at every corner including carolers, live holiday music and a horse-drawn carriage.

Mr. Scrooge

When: Thursday, November 27th – Sunday, December 20th (7:30PM)

Where: Park Street Theater (512 Park Street, Columbus, OH 43215)

Admission: $12 – $25

What: Take Charles Dickens’ classic story A Christmas Carol and add music by Vogt and Friedman and get Mr. Scrooge. Set in 1871, this is the magical story of one Christmas Eve which changes the life of the old curmudgeon, Ebenezer Scrooge. Scrooge spent his entire life saving every penny he could and only looked after himself. In receiving a mysterious warning to change his ways from his old business partner Marley and visits from three mysterious spirits, Scrooge learns the true meaning of Christmas.

Carriage Rides

When: Friday, November 20th – Wednesday, December 23rd (Friday-Saturday 6PM-10PM, Sunday 3PM-7PM)

Where: Easton Town Center (160 Easton Town Center, Columbus, OH 43219)

What: Horse-drawn carriage rides are offered during the holiday season in the North District. They begin the night of the Lighting Ceremony and run through December 23.

Ballet Met’s The Nutcracker

When: Friday, December 11th – Sunday, December 27th (Tuesday-Friday 7:30PM-9:30PM, Saturday-Sunday 1PM-3PM, 5:30PM-7:30PM)

Where: Ohio Theater (39 East State Street, Columbus, OH 43215)

Admission: $29 – $89

What: Make memories that last a lifetime with the magic and adventure of BalletMet’s The Nutcracker. Journey with Clara and her Nutcracker Prince to the Land of Sweets and indulge in unforgettable characters and choreography, exquisite costumes and scenery and music from the Columbus Symphony. BalletMet’s The Nutcracker was co-created by Gerard Charles and Robert Post with choreography by Gerard Charles.
