Central Ohio Calendar of Events – September 2016

Just because summer has come to an end doesn’t mean there aren’t still great events happening in Central Ohio. Be sure to check out these events so you can make this September one to remember. Here are some events going on in the area this month.

BIA Parade of Homes Preview Party

When: Thursday, September 1st [6-10PM]

Where: Verona Development [4436 Powell Road, Powell, OH 43065]

Admission: $85-$95

What: The 2016 BIA Parade of Homes launches again this year with its wildly popular Preview Party. This exclusive first look at all the Parade has to offer allows guests to tour the event’s 16 high-end, luxurious homes well before the general public, while enjoying a lively party atmosphere. The Preview Party features a progressive dinner, along with beverage pairings, by Cameron Mitchell Catering Company. The Preview Party takes place Thursday, Sept. 1 from 6-10 p.m. With proceeds benefiting the BIA Foundation and Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio charities.

Greek Festival

When: Friday, September 2nd – Monday, September 5th

Where: Goodale Blvd at High Street, Columbus, OH 43215

What: Experience the culture and ancestry of Greece during the annual Columbus Greek Festival.

Bike the CBUS 2016

When: Saturday, September 3rd [7AM-3PM]

Where: Elevator Brewing Company [171 N 4th Street, Columbus, OH 43215]

Admission: $10-$50

What: Columbus’ original city-wide ride since 2008, Bike the Cbus is a self-guided group tour highlighting our city’s unique and evolving center-ring neighborhoods. The ride features four Neighborhood Routes of varying lengths that total approximately 30 miles, of which participants can ride as many or few as they choose. Along each route there are stops hosted by local organizations who provide snacks and entertainment. Bike the Cbus+ More seasoned cyclists can ride Bike the Cbus+, a unique SAG-supported urban Metric Century Route (62 miles) through Franklin County.

What: Dust off your buckeyes, gear up your Scarlet & Grey pride and cheer on your favorite football team in the college football home opener.

Fashion Meets Music Festival

When: Saturday, September 3rd – Sunday, September 4th

Where: Arena District [228 Marconi Blvd, Columbus, OH 43215]

What: Fashion Meets Music Festival is returning to the Arena District! Join us as this year’s lineup will include a collaboration of Music and Fashion that will not only attract and bring together the local Columbus community but will position Columbus, OH as a Labor Day weekend destination.

Columbus Dispatch Home & Garden Show

What: This show features decorating and entertaining ideas to get your home ready for the holidays. Plus a marketplace and a variety of events for the whole family!

Ohio Bacon Fest

When: Friday, September 9th [4PM-10PM]

Where: Columbus Commons [160 S High Street, Columbus, OH 43215]

What: Bacon Fest Ohio is focused on America’s favorite delicacy, BACON! Participating vendors, including local food trucks and restaurants, will have the opportunity to serve signature favorite bacon creations. There will be competitions with local celebrity judges along with the famous Bacon Eating Contest.

The Avett Brothers

The New Albany Walking Classic

When: Sunday, September 11th [8AM]

Where: Market Square [New Albany, Ohio 43054]

What: The 12th Annual New Albany Walking Classic will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2016 beginning at 8:00am on Market Sq. in downtown New Albany, Ohio. Organized by the New Albany Walking Club, the Walking Classic is the largest walking-only race in the United States drawing walkers of Olympic caliber as well as recreational walkers whose goal is to walk for health and enjoyment. The Walking Classic offers two choices of distances – a half marathon and a 10k. Participants in both distances will start together.

Dixie Chicks

2016 Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show

Where: St. Agatha’s Parish Hall [1860 Northam Road, Columbus, OH 43221]

Admission: $3

What: 2016 Columbus Fall Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show Kick off fall with us! This large show will feature artists and crafters selling their original handmade items at this beautiful venue! Admission is $3 to the public, children under 12 are free! A portion of proceeds will benefit local non-profit, Pets Without Parents. The show is still currently accepting vendors. 5K For K9s

When: Saturday, September 17th [9AM-1PM]

Where: Alum Creek State Park [Lewis Center Rd, Lewis Center, OH, 43035]

Admission: $3

What: The Friends of the Shelter 5K for K9s is one of our largest annual fundraisers and is held at Alum Creek State Park. It is a 5K run or walk and, thanks to our generous sponsors, 100% of the proceeds raised goes directly to the dogs! All race fees, sponsorships, and pledges help pay for the medical care for sick and injured dogs at the Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center. Run or walk with your four-legged friends and then stay for the raffles and prizes for top runners. Adoptable dogs from the Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center will be there to cheer you on, as well as dogs from other local rescue groups.

Columbus Oktoberfest

When: Friday, September 23rd – Sunday, September 25th [Friday 5PM-12AM, Saturday 12PM-12AM, Sunday, 12PM-8PM]

Where: Ohio Expo Center & State Fair [717 E 17th Avenue, Columbus, OH 43211]

What: Three 100 year old historic covered pavilions (100 thousand square feet) provide the perfect backdrop for two stages and dance floors for lots of polkas! Spanning across three buildings at the Ohio State Fairgrounds / Ohio Expo Center.
