Central Ohio Calendar of Events – December 2016

Columbus Commons Holiday Lights

When: November 28th – January 1st [5PM-11PM

Where: Columbus Commons [160 S High Street, Columbus, OH 43215]

What: Downtown will dazzle with more than 300,000 lights at Columbus Downtown Development’s Columbus Commons.

Ohio Chinese Lantern Festival

When: December 1st – January 2nd [5PM-10PM]

Where: Natural Resources Park at the Ohio State Fairgrounds [717 E 17th Avenue, Columbus, OH, 43211]

What:  The Ohio Chinese Lantern Festival, presented by Tianyu Arts and Culture, showcases Chinese art and culture through the exhibition of 28 Chinese lantern installations using traditional Chinese methods and more than 15,000 LED lights in brilliant colors. This celebration of lights and culture will feature the works of artisans and entertainers from China. Visitors will stroll through the park outfitted with illuminating lantern sculptures of animals, flowers and nature and holiday figures.

Wildlights

When: December 1st – January 1st [Sunday-Thursday 5PM-9PM, Friday-Saturday 5PM-10PM]

Where: Columbus Zoo & Aquarium [4850 W Powell Road, Powell, OH 43065]

What: Central Ohio’s favorite family holiday tradition went from a few strands of lights and a few trays of cookies to millions of LED lights, animated musical light shows, Santa, reindeer and other holiday festivities that can only be found here at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. This year’s event offers more holiday fun than ever before.

Santa 5K & Little Reindeer Dash

When: Saturday, December 3rd [8AM-10AM]

Where: Creekside District [117 Mill Street, Gahanna, Ohio 43230]

What: The Santa Race 5K and Little Reindeer Dash, will be held in Gahanna on Saturday, December 3, 2016.The start and finish area will take place on Mill Street at beautiful Creekside District. The top finishers receive prizes and all finishers a fabulous medal. While the main event will be fun, we don’t want to forget about those Little Reindeer dashers!

Holiday Carriage Rides

When: December 1st – December 23rd [Friday-Saturday 6PM-10PM, Sunday 3PM-7PM]

Where: Easton Town Center [160 Easton Town Center, Columbus, OH 43219]

What: Horse-drawn carriage rides will again be offered during the holiday season at Easton Town Center in the North District. Rides begin November 18 after the Lighting Ceremony. Children under 15 ride free with paying adult. You can grab a carriage ride outside of Eddie Bauer on Gramercy Street.

Grand Illumination Lights

When: December 3rd – January 8th [5PM-11PM]

Where: Bicentennial Park [233 Civic Center Drive, Columbus, OH 43215]

What: “Celebrate the season in downtown Columbus’ winter wonderland. Visitors can stroll along the illuminated Scioto Mile to Bicentennial Park to enjoy a stunning holiday light display. The Scioto Mile features over 200,000 holiday lights, as well as dynamic seasonal imagery projected onto the Scioto Mile Fountain to create a one-of-a-kind visual experience. Stop in Milestone 229 to warm up with a hot beverage and dinner while enjoying a panoramic view of the park and downtown skyline.

Holiday Lighting Ceremony

When: Friday, November 18th [6PM]

Where: Easton [160 Easton Town Center, Columbus, OH 43219]

What: Join us Friday, November 18, for our Holiday Lighting Ceremony. Watch children’s eyes sparkle as Santa arrives, along with a special guest, to illuminate Easton’s 50-ft Christmas tree and a breathtaking display of lights! Cap the evening’s festivities with a visit to Easton Station for photos with Santa, along with extra surprises along the way. It’s the perfect way to celebrate the season, and it’s only at Easton!

Short North Holiday Hop

When: Saturday, December 3rd [12PM-10PM]

Where: Short North Arts District

What: Celebrate the Holidays on the first Saturday of December at Holiday Hop along with thousands of visitors who converge on the High Street in the Short North Arts District. They come to celebrate art and partake in an evening of sights, sounds, food, shopping, and cosmopolitan holiday fun. Expect holiday-themed activities such as visits from Santa, spirited art exhibitions, and unexpected surprises.

Columbus Blue Jackets vs. NY Islanders

2016 Winter Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show

When: Saturday, December 17th [10AM-4PM]

Where: St. Agatha’s Parish Hall [1860 Northam Road, Columbus, OH 43221]

What: 2016 Columbus Winter Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show Only 9 days till Christmas! Start (or finish) your holiday shopping at this festive show! This large show will feature artists and crafters selling their original handmade items at this beautiful venue! Admission is $3 to the public, children under 12 are free! A portion of proceeds will benefit local non-profit, Charity Newsies.

The Harlem Globetrotters

What: The world famous Harlem Globetrotters, featuring some of the most electrifying athletes on the planet, will play two games at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus on Thursday, Dec. 29 at 2PM & 7PM.
