Central Ohio Calendar of Events – April 2017

As the weather starts to brighten up, make the most of it and take advantage of all of the great things that Central Ohio has to offer. Whether you’re looking for an afternoon of family-fun or an evening out with your significant other, Central Ohio has it all! Here are some fun events going on near you this month.

CCAD Art Fair

When: Saturday, April 1st [10AM-2PM]

Where: Columbus College of Art & Design [60 Cleveland Ave, Columbus, OH 43215]

Admission: $5-$20

What: The CCAD Art Fair has become a destination for art collectors and those who simply love art. Discover exceptional work by CCAD students and alumni on Saturday, April 1. Proceeds from the art sold at the fair go directly to the artists, and proceeds from ticket sales go toward student programming at CCAD.

Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Washington Capitals

When: Sunday, April 2nd [6PM]

Where: Nationwide Arena [200 W Nationwide Blvd, Columbus, OH 43215]

What: The only National Hockey League franchise in Ohio, the Columbus Blue Jackets play at Nationwide Arena, located in the heart of the Arena District in downtown Columbus.

Meet The Authors: Emily Giffin

When: Thursday, April 6th [7PM]

Where: Westerville Central High School [7118 Mt Royal Abe, Westerville, OH 43082]

Admission: $10-$50

What: Dubbed a “modern day Jane Austen” and a “dependably down-to-earth storyteller”, Emily Giffin writes fiction that handles serious matters in a heartwarming and slightly lighthearted manner. Hear her tell stories about her life as New York litigation lawyer-turned-author of chick lit novels while on book tour for the paperback release of her instant New York Times bestseller, First Comes Love. Meet the author at an exclusive fundraiser prior to her evening presentation and book signing. The first 200 guests through the door at the event will receive a free paperback copy of her book.

Brantley Gilbert

John Mayer

What: Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter JOHN MAYER is launching his Search for Everything World Tour this spring marking his first solo trek since 2014 sweeping through arenas across North America and Europe featuring full band, solo acoustic and John Mayer Trio sets of music including an April 12 play at the Schottenstein Center. All Dessert Food Tour

When: April 1st – April 22nd [Saturdays 2:30PM-5:45PM]

Where: Schiller Park Rec Center [1069 Jaeger Street, Columbus, OH 43206]

Admission: $55

What: Join us on this van-based tour featuring some of the best desserts in Columbus. This tour first visits new specialty bakery Bake Me Happy, where we’ll not only get to sample their sumptuous sweets but also get a behind-the-scenes look into their impressive production pastry kitchen. Then, it’s chocolate fit for a queen at Madame Delluc, at what is only the second US location for this prestigious Belgian chocolatier. Our next stop is Pattycake Bakery in Clintonville to learn about their whoopie pies, sticky buns and cookies. Of course, no dessert tour of Columbus would be complete without Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream, so we will visit their Clintonville location to try some of their newest seasonal flavors. Finally, we’ll finish our food tour with a fabulous dessert cocktail created by mixologist extraordinaire Cris Dehlavi at M Restaurant (there will be a non-alcoholic drink option available for those under 21 or who do not wish to consume alcohol).

Monster Jam

When: April 22nd – April 23rd

Where: Value City Arena [555 Borror Drive, Columbus, OH 43210]

What: Monster Jam is the most action-packed live event on four wheels where world-class drivers compete in monster truck racing and freestyle competitions. Celebrating 25 years of adrenaline-charged family entertainment, Monster Jam combines spontaneous entertainment with the ultimate off-road, motorsport competition and features the most recognizable trucks in the world including Grave Digger, Northern Nightmare, Wild Thang, Back Draft and more. You’ll be on the edge of your seat as these competitors thrill fans with jaw-dropping displays of gravity-defying feats. Join us at the Pit Party before each of the two 1PM matinees (10:30AM-Noon)…must have a ticket to the main event for entry to Pit Party.

Capital City Half Marathon

When: Saturday, April 29th

Where: Scioto Mile

Admission: $60-$110

What: The Annual OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon will take runners and walkers on “the best tour of Columbus on two feet.” The race features three races: the Capital City Half Marathon, the Quarter Marathon and the Commit To Be Fit 5K.

2017 Ohio Dance Festival & Conference

When: April 28th – April 30th

Where: BalletMet Columbus [322 Mt. Vernon Ave, Columbus, OH 43215]

What: On April 28,29, and 30,2017, OhioDance, the state-wide dance network organization, will co-sponsor its regional festival with BalletMet Columbus. There are many classes, workshops, discussions and performances over the three days. The Sessions will be held at the studios and performance space at BalletMet, 322 Mt. Vernon Ave, Columbus, OH. Festival is inherently creative as the brightest talents in dance converge on Columbus to share new ideas and innovations in the field of dance.

Greater Columbus March For Babies

When: Sunday, April 30th [9AM – 1PM]

Where: Genoa Park [303 W Broad Street, Columbus, OH 43215]

Admission: $25

What: March for Babies is the March of Dimes biggest fundraiser and America’s favorite walking event. The money raised supports the March of Dimes mission to improve the health of babies. We are fighting premature birth! It’s the #1 killer of babies and it costs American businesses $12 billion annually. March for Babies helps families win the fight against premature birth. It funds treatments that help more women go full term and have healthy babies. It funds research to discover the unknown causes of premature birth and find new ways to stop it. We invite you to join our cause and be part of an inspiring community of families and businesses fighting for every baby.
