Central Ohio Calendar of Events – December 2017

Celebrate the last month of the year by enjoying these upcoming events. If you are looking for family-friendly fun, a date night, or night out on the town, you will sure be able to find it! Here is what is happening in Central Ohio this month…



When: Friday, December 1st – Monday, January 1st

Where: Columbus Zoo & Aquarium [4850 W Powell Road, Powell, OH 43065]

What: Central Ohio’s favorite family holiday tradition went from a few strands of lights and a few trays of cookies to millions of LED lights, animated musical light shows, Santa, reindeer and other holiday festivities that can only be found here at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. This year’s event offers more holiday fun than ever before. Closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

Ohio Chinese Lantern Festival

When: Friday, December 1st – Sunday, January 7th [530PM-10PM]

Where: Ohio Expo Center & Fairgrounds [717 E 17th Avenue, Columbus, OH 43211]

Admission: $10-15

What: All-new, beautiful, artfully crafted Chinese lantern displays will light up the Ohio Expo Center this holiday season when the Ohio State Chinese Lantern Festival returns to the Natural Resources Park at the Ohio Expo Center Friday, Nov. 17 through Sunday, Jan. 7.

COSI After Dark – Dinosaurs

When: Thursday, December 7th [530PM-10PM]

Where: COSI [333 W Broad Street, Columbus, OH 43215]

What: See dinosaurs without kids! Through a relationship with the American Museum of Natural History, COSI will feature a permanent Dinosaur Gallery. COSI After Dark is a 21+ event featuring adult beverages and concessions.

Santacon Columbus 2018

When: Friday, December 8th [7PM-12AM]

Where: Arena District [375 N Front Street, Columbus, OH 43215]

What: Santas, suit up for SantaCon 2017! Get ready for a JOLLY good time in the Arena District again this year! Join hundreds of Santas to bar hop around the District. The best part is that this event is FREE to join!!! Drink specials will be available!


Stops include: 

7 p.m. – Big Bang Dueling Piano Bar

8 p.m. – Half Pint Columbus

9 p.m. – R Bar

10 p.m. – Gordon Biersch

11 p.m. – The Three-Legged Mare

Amy Grant & Michael W. Smith

Where: Nationwide Arena [200 W Nationwide Blvd, Columbus, OH 43215]

What:  Multi-platinum, GRAMMY winners Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith co-headline their popular Christmas tour joined by Jordan Smith, Season 9 winner of NBC’s “The Voice.” Incorporating a full symphony orchestra under the direction of Musical Director and Conductor David Hamilton, this seasonal crowd-pleaser stops at Nationwide Arena in Columbus on Friday, December 15, 2017. Combining for a vast collection of critically-acclaimed holiday albums between them, the tour will showcase selections spanning the artists’ expansive Christmas repertoires.

Harlem Globe Trotters

What: The worldwide icons synonymous with one-of-a-kind family entertainment — the Harlem Globetrotters — will bring their World Tour to the Schottenstein Center in Columbus on Thursday, December 28 at 2PM and 7PM.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra

When: Saturday, December 30th [3-6PM & 8-11PM]

Where: Nationwide Arena [200 W Nationwide Blvd, Columbus, OH 43215]

What: Trans-Siberian Orchestra announced its highly-anticipated Winter Tour 2017.  Over the past 20-plus years, Trans-Siberian Orchestra has become a beloved, multi-generational holiday tradition. 2017’s tour, a completely updated presentation of TSO’s unforgettable “The Ghosts of Christmas Eve,” is set to play two shows at Nationwide Arena on Saturday, December 30, 2017.
