Central Ohio Calendar of Events – July 2018

There are a ton of things going on in and around Central Ohio this month. It’s the summertime, so embrace it with all of the outdoor activities that you can possibly handle. Here are some events going on near you this month.

Red, White & Boom

Doo Dah Parade

When: Wednesday, July 4th at 1PM

Where: Downtown Columbus [Buttles & High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215]

Admission: Free

What: The Doo Dah Parade in Columbus, Ohio, is a celebration of life, liberty and the pursuit of literary lunacy. The one-day satirical party features a one-of-a-kind parade filled with characters in costume, humorous political debates, satirists’ readings, a singing of the National Anthem, live music and a post parade block party.

New Albany Independence Day 5K

When: Wednesday, July 4th [8AM-9:30AM]

Where: Market Square [Market Street, New Albany, Ohio 43054]

What: 5K Run/Walk, Kids Crawl, and Kids FUN Run benefiting the New Albany Symphony Orchestra and local nonprofit performing arts groups. The run is followed by the New Albany Fourth of July Parade.

Taylor Swift at Ohio Stadium

When: Saturday, July 7th [7PM-10PM]

Where: Ohio Stadium [411 Woody Hayes Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43210]

What: The first round of dates for Taylor Swift’s reputation Stadium Tour were announced hours after the ten-time GRAMMY winner performed “Ready For It?” and “Call It What You Want” from the unanimously critically-acclaimed album, reputation, on “Saturday Night Live.” Taylor Swift’s reputation Stadium Tour includes a play on Saturday, July 7 at Ohio Stadium.

COSI After Dark – Christmas in July

When: Thursday, July 12th [6PM-10PM]

Where: COSI [333 W Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215]

What: Geek out with grown-ups and explore COSI, ride the High Wire Unicycle, enjoy special themed activities, concessions and a cash bar. No time to eat before coming? Add food to your COSI After Dark ticket. Offering a variety of small plates, guests who purchase this food ticket receive a wristband for all-you-can eat menu items. Buffet is open from 6:00-8:30.

Sugarland

When: Thursday, July 12th [7PM-10:30PM]

Where: Schottenstein Center [555 Borror Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43210]

What: Sugarland revealed the 48 cities that will be on their Still The Same 2018 tour. Among them is Columbus on July 12. Sugarland’s signature ballad “Stay” won the five-time CMA-winning artists a Grammy for best country performance by a duo or group with vocals in 2008. Since 2011, Nettles and Bush have each recorded as solo acts. Nettles catalogue incudes That Girl (2014), Playing With Fire (2016) and To Celebrate Christmas (2016). Bush released Gravity in 2015 and produced Lindsay Ells newest album, The Project.

Free Movie Night: Coco

What: Classic drive-in movies always start at dusk, and so do the flicks at Columbus Commons. Park your blanket or a chair on the lawn and take in a FREE movie under the stars. Tortilla and Jenis will be open to accommodate your movie cravings.

Jazz & Rib Fest

When: Friday, July 20th – Sunday, July 22nd [11AM-8:30PM]

Where: Scioto Mile [233 S Civic Center Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43215]

What: This highly anticipated summertime tradition in downtown Columbus offers both jazz and rib connoisseurs the finest in music and barbeque. Located along the Scioto River, the festival offers three days of continuous jazz by renowned international and local musicians while barbeque pit masters serve up sizzling ribs, chicken and more. Savor the best ribs from around the country as 23 award-winning barbeque teams compete for Best Ribs bragging rights.

Ohio State Fair

When: Wednesday, July 25th – Sunday, August 5th [9AM -10PM]

What: Get ready for the 164th Ohio State Fair, July 25 – Aug. 5! Enjoy a variety of activities and exhibits including interactive educational displays, sporting competitions, a fine arts show, free stages with amazing hypnotists, impressive magicians and wholesome kids’ entertainment, exotic animals in the free petting zoo, a farm animal delivery room, helicopter rides, roving performers, youth agricultural competitions, horse shows, an eight acre natural resources park with free kiddie fishing, wildlife and much more! The Midway features more than 60 exhilarating rides sure to excite you, while Kiddieland is home to rides geared toward parents riding with small children.
