The New Albany Women’s Network will be meeting at noon today, November 11, 2009,  for their Empowering Women Series.

Today’s topic will be “A Woman’s Guide to Money… Everything you need to know and should know about your finances.” The New Albany Women’s Network accountants, Jeanne Griffin and Pegi Deeter, will be elaborating on financial issues specific to women and their families. Such topics may include children and finances, taxes, becoming a Chief Financial Parent, and more.

New Albany Ohio Real Estate Market: Columbus Board of Realtors February Real Estate Statistics

Nationally the housing picture is really looking up!

According to the National Association of Realtors there was a 5.1% increase in sales in February compared to the slower activity in January. This is partially due to the effects of the Obama stimulus finally getting buyers off of the fence.

Here in Central Ohio Real Estate, the Columbus Association of Realtors has released the February 2009 Real Estate statistics for its area.

They commented that falling mortgage rates and increased consumer activity – according to NAR there were 5% more people looking at homes last month! – point towards a positive future.

In February a total of 1,123 homes changed hands. With the buying power of the typical family has risen over the last several months; average buyers can now afford a home costing $20,000 more than a year ago, according to the National Association of Realtors Housing Affordability Index.

New Albany Ohio Community: The Links Neighborhood to get a Playpark

New Albany Links neighborhood could have new play park for the kids thanks to funding from the village council.

The play area, or “tot lot,” at the development, off Sumption Drive is unofficially is being called Sumption Park, will cost the village about $60,000 for play equipment, a fence and some landscaping. The play park was approved by the council about a year ago as the lower area of the Links did not have a tot lot for the kids. The new lot is just off of one of the villages numerous leisure trails, giving access to much of the community. Additionally, the village aims to have a gazebo built near the tot lot as a gathering area for residents.

In the mid-1990s, the village council approved an ordinance to require housing developers to install play areas in each subdivision. The village currently has eight tot lots, however, as the Links is one of the older housing developments in the village the subdivision was not required to have a playground.

When completed, the village will provide maintenance for the playground for about 10 years. After that, the subdivision’s homeowners association will take over its care.

This is definitely exciting news for New Albany!
