This weekend marks the annual Creekside Blues & Jazz Festival in Gahanna Ohio. Friday through Sunday nationally known musicians will be playing at Creekside Plaza. Great for the whole family there will be multiple stages, food, and fun. Special events of the festival include Jog for Jazz, a fun 5k walk/run, Sunday Jazz Brunch, and the Rising Stars Contest. Headliners include Tab Benoit, Jimi Vincent and the Columbus Jazz Orchestra to name a few.

Art About Town will bring great art to Central Ohio communities

The Columbus Museum of Art is sharing some of it pieces with Central Ohio communities. The museum is bringing some of its collection to other towns as the museum building is remodeled. Sharing art with Central Ohio though the “Art About Town” program helps the museum and the community.

The program is starting in Bexley at the Jeffrey Mansion, 165 N. Parkview Ave., from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 5th. Discussion and activities will take place around the artwork which is being displayed.

Thirteen other areas in Central Ohio will be a part of this special program, including Clintonville, Dublin, Gahanna, German Village, Grove City, Franklinton, the King-Lincoln district, New Albany, Pickerington, Powell, Upper Arlington, Westerville and Worthington. According to an article in ColumbusLocalNews.com, “Council members approved ordinances that will allow the city to apply for grants from the Ohio Department of Transportation to help fund projects for Lincoln and Jefferson Elementary Schools and Middle School East and West.” Safe trails are instrumental to a community, and Gahanna seeks to improve the trails that children use to get to school.

A new program in Gahanna is in place to help brownfield sites go green. Think BIG (Brown is Green) was formed with a grant of $1 million from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The money is being used to educate and aid Gahanna’s brownfield site owners on how to return these properties back to useful, clean, green sites. Think BIG offers loans at low interest rates to Gahanna brownfield land owners who promise to improve their land. In addition to cleaning up any unsightly properties in Gahanna, Think BIG is hoping that their program may instigate some economic movement as well. To take advantage of the First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit a home has to close before December 1, 2009. The credit gives the buyer 10% of the purchase price up to $8,000 at closing. This tax credit is attributed to the increase in sales in Central Ohio. Currently real estate is more affordable than it has been in years. With mortgage rates at historic 30 year lows, home values low and the First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit there couldn’t be a better time to look at real estate in Central Ohio.

Central Ohio Real Estate Has Dip But Improving Overall

Central Ohio real estate is improving despite little dips in data here and there

Central Ohio real estate has taken a dip in sales price and volume, however, this is a small bump in the road of the real estate recovery.

According to a recent article in the Columbus Dispatch, “in Central Ohio, the average sales price fell 4 percent to $168,873. Statewide, the average price dropped 9 percent to $128,440.” The article points out that homes are staying on the market for a shorter length of time than a year ago, and the inventory of homes on the market has been steadily decreasing.

The article also notes that the first time home buyer tax credit should increase Central Ohio real estate sales in the coming months. “Central Ohio agents say they expect sales to rise in September and October as first-time buyers seek to close on a home by Nov. 30 to claim a federal tax credit.”

Real estate in Central Ohio and across the country will have its ups and downs on the way to recovery but the overall picture is improving.
