The Community of New Albany has been on a bit of a roll lately. Someone forgot to tell them the country is in a recession.

Not only has the city seen their $1 billion dollar investment in commercial and state-of-the-art infrastructure over the past 10 years pay off in bringing in companies that want to make use of that infrastructure, they have also increased accessibility through building community.

This has resulted in the New Albany Business Park’s record commercial growth in the midst of a recession. Growth that has captured the attention of media outlets on a local and state level by creating 3,500 jobs.

In the spirit of continued re-investment in community New Albany council created, newalbanybusiness.org, a micro-site that supports the idea of challenging the status quo by finding innovative new ways to promote smart growth.

The site also reinforces that New Albany’s business propositions go well beyond tax incentives and focus on a high level of business connectivity, productive public private partnerships and maintaining a technological edge.

The micro-site is the cherry on top of a communications plan that earned New Albany Council and staff the coveted Diamond Award at the recent Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) East Central District Diamond Awards competition. New Albany’s communications plan beat out 16 local PRSA chapters in the states of Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

There’s always something to do in Central Ohio! The New Albany Classic took place in New Albany on September 27th and and Pumpkinpalooza will be on October 3. You are practically guaranteed a priceless day of family fun at either of these events, while they both raise money for their respective causes.

The 12th annual New Albany Classic began at 11:30am with a Tween Brands concert featuring Jordin Sparks with special guest Mitchel Musso presented by Justice. The welcoming ceremony followed at 1:00pm with the Grand Prix at 1:30pm. All proceeds from this event benefit the Columbus Coalition Against Family Violence. Another family fun day can be enjoyed at the Pumpkinpalooza at Lynd’s farm on October 3. This inaugural event is a festival in the beautiful country setting of Lynd’s fruit farm, a U-pick farm with plenty of pumpkins and a corn maze. New Albany Ohio is taking measures to bring 10 technology-related companies to town over a 3 year period by voting to appropriate $250,000 for the Tech Columbus Incubator Project.

Tech Columbus Incubator Project is Ohio’s top startup enterprise and New Albany stands to benefit from their partnership by bringing new jobs to the community. Tech Columbus will have office space in New Albany and a manager there to help with technology startup operations. Tech Columbus also agreed to provide space for Ohio Tech Angels (the third-biggest startup company in the country) to hold activities in the space.

The village of New Albany has already begun to receive inquiries about the project and envisions not only new businesses for the community but also more readily available resources for New Albany’s existing companies.

After 5 years of working through legal questions, an agreement has been accepted by Plain township, the village of New Albany, Columbus and the Columbus Metro Parks that will set in motion the plan to develop a 1,200 acre metro park in the northern part of the township.

The next step in the process will be for all entities involved in the park to sign the agreement. A signing date is currently being worked on. Once all signatures are in place the land acquisition will begin.

Columbus has the option to annex 2,800 acres from Plain township with as much as 1,200 acres to be set aside for the park. The size of the park will be determined by the cost of the land. Current plans call for the park to be bordered by Schott Road, Walnut Street, Peter Hoover Road and Delaware-Franklin County line. The plan process will be lengthy with fruition more likely enjoyed by next generation of area residents.
