Central Ohio Real Estate and Community: Columbus plans for bicentennial in 2012

Its coming! No, not the election! But the Columbus Bicentennial in 2012. Preparations are already underway for this historic city to celebrate its 200th birthday. The City itself has Mayor Mike Coleman spearheading the project in helping raise public awareness.

The process of preparation and public input started sometime before, back in 2007 the 2012 Think Tank undertook public surveys of what they wanted for Columbus by 2012. The 2012 Commission was set up to oversee the celebration and ensure that it is carried out to plan.

The campaign has 13 focus areas:

Arts & Culture
History & Bicentennial
Diverse People
Downtown Revitalization
Green Community
Growth Through Learning
Health & Human Services
Jobs & Technology
Image & Marketing
Neighborhoods & Life
Safety
Sports & Recreation
Moving People

For the celebrations themselves there will be historic re-enactments as well as ceremonies to honor local heroes. There is also an expansion of the Public Arts program and a downtown revitalization scheme which aims to have Columbus host more cultural events!

Columbus is such a vibrant city. With a stable local economy on the grow and a great selection of housing available in the suburban villages it is no wonder that so many people are looking at relocating to the area.
