Central Ohio Calendar of Events – January 2017

It’s almost time to say goodbye to 2016 and hello to the New Year with as much fun and entertainment as you can. Whether you’re looking for something to do with a group of friends, or events to bring the whole family along, there are always things to do in Central Ohio. Here are a few events going on near you this month.


Wildlights at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

When: Now until January 4th [Monday-Thursday 5-9PM, Friday-Saturday 5-10PM]

Where: Columbus Zoo & Aquarium [4850 W Powell Road, Powell, Ohio]

Admission: Children 2-9: $9.99, Seniors: $10.99, Adults: $14.99

Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Oilers

When: Tuesday, January 3rd [7PM]

Where: Nationwide Arena [200 W Nationwide Blvd, Columbus, OH 43215]

What: Come cheer on the Columbus Blue Jackets! The only National Hockey League franchise in Ohio, the Columbus Blue Jackets play at Nationwide Arena, located in the heart of the Arena District in downtown Columbus.

Gallery Hop

When: Saturday, January 7th [4PM-10PM]

Where: Short North Arts District

What: On Gallery Hop Saturday, thousands of visitors converge on High Street in the Short North Arts District. Visitors celebrate art throughout the evening with new gallery exhibitions, street performers, special events, food, and drinks throughout the District. With dozens of galleries and non-traditional exhibit spaces, it’s Columbus’ favorite night of the month to celebrate art. Though many shops and galleries are open earlier, Gallery Hop officially starts at 4:00pm and runs to 10:00pm, with restaurants and bars staying open considerably later.

The Conservative Theatre Festival

When: Saturday, January 7th [7PM-10PM]

Where: Columbus Performing Arts Center (Shedd Theater) [549 Franklin Ave, Columbus, OH 43215]

Admission: $5

What: The Conservative Theatre Festival will feature original short plays by conservative playwrights from all across the United States. Each play espouses conservative themes and presents an alternative voice that is not heard or appreciated in American theatre. Please join us for an evening that will make you think and recognize that there’s another point of view that deserves its place at the theatrical table.

Snow White

When: January 12th – January 22nd (Every Sunday, Thursday, Friday, & Saturday)

Where: Park Street Theatre [512 Park Street, Columbus, OH 43215]

Admission: $12-$25

What: Performed by The CCT Touring Company Princess Snow White escapes from the Wicked Queen, whose vanity and jealousy has led her to threaten the princess’s life. Snow White seeks refuge and protection from a group of mysterious and silly dwarves and is ultimately saved by true love’s kiss. This production features audience participation. 1 Act Play, No Intermission, 50 Minutes. Recommended for ages 3+

Winter Jam

When: Saturday, January 21st [12PM – 11PM]

Where: Value City Arena [555 Borror Drive, Columbus, OH 43210]

Admission: $10

What: The annual multi-artist extravaganza-one of the world’s leading first quarter tours-Winter Jam 2017 is set to showcase 10 of Christian music’s best and brightest artists: multi GRAMMY-nominated singer/songwriter Crowder; Top 40 hit-maker and GRAMMY-nominee Britt Nicole; Dove Award-winning fan favorites Tenth Avenue North; breakout pop/hip-hop recording artist Andy Mineo; Dove Award-winning singer/songwriter and American Idol finalist Colton Dixon; best-selling rockers Thousand Foot Krutch; and GRAMMY-nominated Winter Jam creators and tour hosts, NewSong. In addition, the Pre-Jam Party, sponsored by Israel: Land of Creation, will feature OBB, Sarah Reeves and Steven Malcolm. The tour will also be highlighted by a special appearance from Duck Dynasty television star Sadie Robertson, as well as a message from acclaimed author, speaker and evangelist Tony Nolan. Presented by Holt International, Winter Jam 2017 will make stops at 46 cities including Saturday, January 21 at the Schottenstein Center. General admission is $10 at the door, with premium Jam Nation memberships available in advance at jamtour.com. Disney On Ice – Dream Big

When: Wednesday, January 25th – Sunday, January 29th

What: Believing is just the beginning … witness empowering tales of Disney’s courageous leading ladies as told through artistic skating and acrobatics in Disney On Ice presents Dream Big. Eight Disney Princesses – Ariel, Belle, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Tiana, Jasmine, Aurora and Snow White embark on incredible adventures, determined to make their dreams come true. Through enchanted pixie-dust, Tinker Bell takes you on a journey of beloved Disney tales. Make a splash with fearless dreamer Ariel who yearns to explore life above the waves. Watch Rapunzel, Cinderella and Belle learn about the power to make their own magic. Travel to the wintry Arendelle with sisters Anna and Elsa and the hilarious snowman Olaf from Disney’s Frozen as they learn that love is the greatest magic of all. The Little Mermaid

What: In a magical kingdom fathoms below, we meet Ariel, the little mermaid who is tired of flipping her fins and longs to be part of the fascinating world on dry land. Joining her are Sebastian, Ariel’s crabby sidekick; Ursula, the evil sea witch; Triton, King of the Sea and the handsome and human Prince Eric. Based on the Disney animated film and hit Broadway musical. Dive on in! Life is the bubbles, under the sea! Prices are subject to change without notice.
