Steer Clear of These Home Decor Trends When Selling

First impressions count. If you are selling your home now or are planning to sell in the future, creating a memorable first impression is one of the most important things that you can do. We have made it easy to do with just 4 simple tips to steer clear of when preparing your home for sale:

1.Wallpaper:

Bold, almost kitschy wallpaper is very trendy right now, but it is a huge no if you are getting ready to sell your current home. Removing existing wallpaper can be a tedious task that requires patience and the right tools to be effective. Stripping wallpaper can be done with chemicals or stripping tools, but care must be taken or damage can result to the wall and can be a large expense to be repaired when selling your home. Consult a home improvement store for specific instructions for your application.

2. Intricately Patterned Tile:

Patterned cement tiles are everywhere, but they can distract buyers who won’t be able to see potential in the space. These rooms can also become quickly dominated by solid colors, making the room seem stuffy and hard to decorate. When these patterned tiles are added to a home, it is easy to get tired of them and they are expensive to replace.

3. Statement Door:

A clean and colorful front door upgrades your home’s curb appeal, but pick the right color. Choose from simple and neutral colors like black, grey, or charcoal. Taping paint chips to your existing door is one way to choose a color. If you have narrowed down the selections to 2 or 3 choices, you may also want to purchase small samples of paint to compare a larger swatch of the colors next to one another. To help with your decision, be sure to look at the swatches at different times of the day to see how the color changes as the light brightens and dims.

4. To Much Brass:

Brass and rose gold have come in and out of style, but they are polarizing. Polished brass, like most shiny finishes, will show fingerprints and the lacquer can dull over time. Choose more neutral colored metals, silver for example, for your home to make it more appealing to home buyers.
